Description
Green roofs are an important tool in reducing the negative impacts of stormwater on our local streams and rivers and the Chesapeake Bay. In the Washington, DC region, local governments require green roofs on some new construction, and several municipal programs encourage the implementation of green roofs, but many roofs are not well-managed once installed. This course seeks to empower local contractors with the skills needed to provide maintenance services for green roofs.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
-
Describe Chesapeake Bay restoration and local watershed protection efforts.
-
Explain the importance of green roof maintenance for water quality goals.
-
Understand basic green roof construction and components.
-
Assess green roof condition and identify maintenance needs.
-
Perform routine and non-routine green roof maintenance tasks.
-
Recognize safety requirements and challenges of working on green roofs.
-
Develop and implement a maintenance plan for a green roof.
